Nowadays, Diabetes already accounts for 10% of Hong Kong's population, hence, whether you are old or young, you should pay attention to the body's blood glucose index, and eat less high-fat and high-sugar foods. We will collect more information for those who care about health issues.

Diabetes has a close influence on kidney disease

According to Dr. Charles M. Clark, Jr. M.D., Former President of the National Diabetes Education Program says:"It takes 9 to 12 years for a person with type 2 diabetes to discover that diabetes causes kidney disease." Because due to high blood sugar, the kidneys need to filter the excess sugar from the blood, hence, increase its workload. It was only ten years later that the kidney disease appeared. So it is very important to monitor blood sugar regularly. According to the American Kidney Disease Data System, 43.8% of kidney diseases are caused by diabetes.

GI index Glycemic index

The increase in blood sugar within two hours of consumption of pure glucose is based on GI=100. For other foods, the glycemic index is obtained by comparing the increase in blood glucose values 2 hours after eating with the increase in pure glucose values. According to a recent study by the Harvard School of Public Health, the GI index leads to the risk of type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease. (Source: University of Sydney)

Hyperglycemia damages blood vessels

High GI foods can raise blood sugar to a high level within two hours, which can damage the blood vessels of diabetic friends.

According to Jerzy Kotlinowski in Jagiellonian University, high blood sugar can damage the surface endothelial cells inside blood vessels. As a result, it affects the kidneys, heart and produces diabetes and eye diseases.

At the same time, because blood vessels are damaged, the body will try to deposit cholesterol to protect the blood vessels from further damage. But too much-deposited cholesterol will narrow the blood vessels and increase blood pressure, increasing the risk of clogged arteries.

Therefore, those who have hyperglycemia should check the blood sugar to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction by 40% before and after meals.
